What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word fall? I know what you’re thinking, but the answer is not pumpkin (although for me, it is always pumpkin). What about apple? Apple pie, apple picking, apple crumb, ok now I’m hungry. Sadly, this is not a delicious warm yummy apple pie dessert recipe. It is however, a yummy delicious apple cinnamon cocktail recipe. When making the transition to fall, I like to bring the crisp, warm, cozy season into every aspect of my home. When looking to make the switch from cool, mineral-y, fresh, and light white and rosé wines of the summer, I thought there was no better place to start than with an easy, low prep, always on hand, fall cocktail.
Now I’m no cocktail expert. I’m an expert at consuming them, but still honing my craft when it comes to creating them. I decided to phone my good friend Casey Clark of @dragonbarfly to help. When I told her what I was craving, she immediately shot back, “Cinnamon Apple Infused Bourbon”. Say no more, I was hooked. When I read the recipe and saw how incredibly easy it was to create a restaurant style bourbon cocktail at home, I just had to share. Apples, cinnamon, bourbon, cider, let it sit for a few days, and you’re done. Have I hooked you yet?

“This cocktail is one of my favorites because it is always a crowd-pleaser. During the holidays, I always bring a little “thank you” gift to whoever is hosting the party. I love gifting the Apple Cinnamon Infused Bourbon because it is delicious, impressive, and so easy to make. Homemade gifts are also the best! The apple cinnamon infusion provides an instant cocktail in a glass. You can serve it by itself over ice, or add a couple of simple additions, such as a squeezed orange twist, to add a touch of brightness to the drink. To add an extra layer of flavor and really “wow” your guests, add a smoked cinnamon stick to your garnish. Using a butane torch, carefully torch half of a cinnamon stick for 10-15 seconds and place in glass. Cheers!”

Apple Cinnamon Infused Bourbon:
Bottle of Kentucky Bourbon (I love Bulleit!)
Bag of Red Apples - About 10 medium (Gala or any other sweet red apple preferred)
Ground Cinnamon (about 2-3 tablespoons, or more if you’d like)
2 cups apple cider
Simple syrup (optional)
For Cinnamon Infused Bourbon:
Roughly slice & blend apples with the apple cider, skin on.
Stir bourbon, blended apple, ground cinnamon, and cider mixture together.
Let mixture sit covered for 3-5 days, 5 days will give the most flavor.
After infusing for a few days, strain mixture through cheesecloth (this is a bit of a process but so worth it!)
For the Cocktail:
Fill a rocks glass with ice.
Pour 2oz Apple Cinnamon Infused Bourbon over ice
Add 2 dashes orange bitters
Add Splash of simple syrup if desired (the bourbon is also very smooth on its own so this is all up to taste)
Another nice addition is a tiny bit of lemon juice (about 1/4oz/one large wedge) if you’re looking for a brighter/less sweet flavor.
Garnish: Orange Twist & Torched Cinnamon Stick- If you have a butane torch it’s super easy/they have cheap ones on amazon! If not, un-torched is just as impressive!
The best thing about this cocktail is that once you infuse the bourbon, you always have it on hand. Cozy nights by the fire, paired with cheese and charcuterie, or served during game night, this cocktail will be the highlight of your fall season.
